Searchin’

Gone Too Long

Shouts ring out all along The Boundary
Ghostly voices echoing from days gone by
Moments lost for ever, fading to twilight
Lost my girl and my dreams somewhere along the way

Packin’ up what cares I have left
Saying goodbyes with tearful reminders
I’ll be on that morning train headin’ south
Gonna leave this dead end, good for nothing town

There was a time that nothing but you mattered
Getting lost in your arms and favoured charms
Knowing our love would last forever
But even forever ends someday

Gotta get out before tears take hold
Before time passes and my poor heart breaks
I’ll be walking toward the horizon from now on
Searchin’ for forgotten dreams gone too long

Gone Too Long

Micro Poetry Times Five – Three

Mid-morning thoughts float on by
Watching clouds part in a blue sky
Then back to the daily grind
As storm clouds gather in my mind

Droning hiss of pouring rain
Drip, drop from the kitchen sink
Discordant melodies merge
….stillness descends

Words of truth
Words of wisdom
Words unspoken
Silent words

Passing moments in time
Some brief, some linger
Others weigh heavy
Longing to be lifted
And pass on to better times

I can feel the heat of darkness burning
Consumed in the flames of desire
Lost in the light of an early dawn

Spellbound in Darkness

Silent Moments

Conversations bubble as seats taken
Hush descends, lights slowly dim
Orchestra pit lamps illuminate shadows
Stillness overtakes as anticipation rises

Music fills the air with excited promise
Curtains part, a column of light appears
Smoke is caught and whirls endlessly
Flickering images appear on the screen

Title cards announce a tale of woe
Of love, heartache, tears and laughter
A dashing hero, a beautiful heroine
The dastardly villain bent on revenge

Romance told in visual vignettes
Music plays to action unfolding
Restrained melodies serenading lovers
Thunderous crescendo for the villain

With the sound of silence ever near
Transported to a place of wonder
When faces spoke and we listened
A world of shadow and light

Those far off days of glamour
Old Hollywood frozen in time
Dreams in silhouette survive
Forever spellbound in darkness

Silent Moments

Spanning Time

This is a re-write on an earlier poem. To read the original click HERE

A Lonesome Survivor

Its shapely leaves adorned heads of ancient kings
Provided shade for lovers on long summer days
Sheltered travellers through cold winter nights
A resolute beacon in an ever changing landscape

Scared by the embrace of a hangman’s noose
Grown strong from blood of lives lost long ago
Sired generations that built ships of the line
Framed buildings and bridges spanning time

On a windswept hilltop stands a solitary oak tree
Old and weary this majestic sentinel silently waits
Bark gnarled and twisted, bursting with memories
A lonesome survivor of rituals from a bygone age

Memories You Once Had

This week’s poem for Facebook Group: Poetry in Motion.

Moments

Carefree school days
Long summer nights
Magical Christmas mornings
And becoming lost in a book
Are memories you once had

Excitement of your fist kiss
Followed by heartbreaks
Getting your first job
And moving out on your own
Are memories you once had

Finding the love of your life
Happiness on your wedding day
Making a home for both of you
And planning for the future
Are memories you once had

Holding your first born
Joy of her first steps
First day of school
And all those other “firsts”
Are memories you once had

Sleepless nights as she grew up
Full of pride on graduation day
Sadness when she left home
And tears on her wedding day
Are memories you once had

Delight in holding your grandson
Devastated when your parents passed away
Growing old surrounded by those you love
And the pain of loosing your beloved
Are memories you once had

Confused as past moments fade
Feeling scared and all alone
Familiar faces are now strangers
And you are no longer safe at home
….are memories you now have

Moments

Sleepless Nights

Clouds Linger

Lost in thought
Where does time go?
Searching for answers
Finding only questions
Leaving accusations behind
Forever in doubt

Looking toward the past
Hoping for a future
Trapped in between
With no where to go
From sleepless nights
Dreams are rekindled

Once choices were easy
Youthful days long ago
Energies ran free
Passions held firmly
Paths were clear
Now clouds linger

Weary but unbroken
Choices still remain
Fewer than before
But there nonetheless
Time to collect things forgotten
Before they’re gone forever

Clouds Linger

Where Time Stands Still

This week’s poem for Facebook Group: Poetry in Motion.

The Colour of Time

Every morning it’s the colours I see first
I look out my window and see this world
There’s no colour where time stands still
Without time there’s only back and white

You are the very first guest I have ever had
The very first since, well since time began
I sit here and watch the universe pass by
I love the colours and how they move

I have watched your world form from dust
I watched as life began to grow and spread
I was there when your species walked upright
Moved over the surface of this shinning world

I was there at the first glimmer of civilisation
At the Fall of Troy and the rise of Rome
I was with you in every war and every disaster
I have followed every plague and every scourge

Yes, I was there each and every time
I was also here protected from time
You doubt me; I see it in your eyes
You think I’m mad or you’re dreaming

I have often wondered what a dream looks like
But I assure you if this is a dream it is not yours
I see many questions forming in your mind
Sit down; we have all the time in the world

Yes sit down and we’ll have food and refreshments
Food prepared by finest chefs that have ever lived
The best wine prepared from ancient vineyards
I will be your host and answer all your questions

What is that? You want to know who I am
I beg your pardon, I’ve forgotten my manners
It is a new experience for me – having a guest
I’m Death Incarnate and I’ve claimed your soul

The Colour of Time

Time Slips Away

Here is my poem for last weeks picture prompt for Facebook Group: Poetry in Motion.

The Glow of Limelight

A concrete tomb of memory surrounds
Thoughts and past life roams free here
The dancer stares into empty space
For the briefest moment time slips away

Fifty years ago, it seems forever now
On a lighted stage she showed them how
A Sleeping Beauty like none had ever seen
Soon to be destined for the silver screen

Movements made with delicate precision
Then a moment of doubt and indecision
A fragile mind that could not be controlled
Reckless terrors took their gripping hold

Lost in a pit of self loathing and destruction
When all cries for help meet with obstruction
Ending on a deserted road one dark rainy night
Never again to dance in the glow of limelight

Fifty years ago on a lighted stage she showed them how
Remembering aching limbs and flowing perspiration
With memories of applause she takes her final bow
Exit stage right, Sleeping Beauty dances forevermore

The Glow of Limelight

Haiku Ten – Seven

Writing for many
Haiku in social circles
An undying art

Shadows on the screen
Living a nitrate daydream
Moments in darkness

Ruby lips entice
Smiling eyes pluck at heart strings
Beauty is timeless

Weary thoughts ignite
Forgotten memories burn
Dreaming in shadows

Lost in memories
Searching for hope in shadows
A dreamer awakes

Desires become one
And release hidden passions
Silence the darkness

Gentle thoughts caress
Distraction clouds my vision
Reflecting desires

Grey light surrounds me
Shadows fade into the night
Longing for your kiss

Early evening chill
A relentless rain pours down
Prelude to springtime

Not the Ides of March
About ole St Patrick’s Day
Time for a birthday
