Love’s First Blush

Lanterns in the Sky

Under the spell of love’s first blush
Like a shot of an adrenaline rush
We were young, we were strong
Without fear it was wrong

Driving down the coast
Radio playing memories
Of summertime romance
Did we have a chance
When it came to our dance?

It’s not just a teenage love song
On the patio with lanterns in the sky
Our love was just a song away
Sharing a kiss before we said goodbye

Thinking how it used to be
Those times are close to me
For the love we could not suppress
And the softness of your caress

The heat of your touch
The beat of your heart
The rush of your breath
The mist in your eyes

When you walk into a room
With the scent of your perfume
Words flow from my heart
Hoping never to depart

You take off your dress
In the cool of the night
No need to assume
For a love we will consume

Thinking how it used to be
Those times are close to me
For the love we could not suppress
And the softness of your caress

The heat of your touch
The beat of your heart
The rush of your breath
The mist in your eyes

Under the spell of love’s first blush
Like a shot of an adrenaline rush
We were young, we were strong
Without fear it was wrong

Thinking how it used to be
Those times are close to me
For the love we could not suppress
And the softness of your caress

The heat of your touch
The beat of your heart
The rush of your breath
The mist in your eyes

The softness of your lips
The touch of your finger tips
The sweet smell of your embrace
Our bodies entwine and move in rhythm

Blessings of your caress
Darkness moves in a trance
Our bodies become one
To the tune of a slow dance

Thinking how it used to be
Those times are close to me
For the love we could not suppress
And the softness of your caress

The heat of your touch
The beat of your heart
The rush of your breath
The mist in your eyes

Driving down the coast
Radio playing memories
Of summertime romance
Did we have a chance
When it came to our dance?

A Sphinx Serenade

A bit of background for this song…I found this wonderful photo of Louis Armstrong taken in 1961 at the Pyramids of Giza near the Sphinx and posted it on Twitter. A follower replied “sphinx serenade” and then another said that could make a good jazz tune. Well the following (below the photo) is what I have come up with.

Louis Armstrong plays the trumpet while his wife sits listening with the Sphinx behind her, during a visit to the Pyramids at Giza in Egypt, 1961.

A Sphinx Serenade

Just a cat sittin’ all alone
Not botherin’ anyone
Forgotten and forlorn
Not sayin’ a word to spite his nose

Louis went down to old Egypt land
Seein’ Mr Sphinx all sad and lonely
Pulled out his trumpet and began to play

At first sweet and low
A Sphinx serenade
Then Louis blew louder …
…and louder…
Louder than Joshua at the Battle of Jericho

Instead of fallin’ down
Ole Mr Sphinx got up and danced
Now you ain’t seen nothin’ like it
Nor heard anythin’ like it
This cat got up and began to jive

Louis went down to old Egypt land
Seein’ Mr Sphinx all sad and lonely
Pulled out his trumpet and began to play
At first sweet and low
A Sphinx serenade

Then he played louder…
Louder than Joshua at the Battle of Jericho
Instead of fallin’ down
This cat got up and began to jive

Just a cat sittin’ all alone
Not botherin’ anyone
Forgotten and forlorn
Not sayin’ a word to spite his nose

Louis went down to old Egypt land
Pulled out his trumpet and began to play

It Started With a Song

The Dusts of Time

It started with a song
But it’s been so long
After you nothing’s the same

The cracks in our love spoke loud
Drowning out the sweetest of sounds
And when your memory weighs heavy
I call for you in the night

I knew I wanted to be with you
When the DJ played that song
Dancing through the night
Holding hands in morning light

I found the words to make you mine
Shaking off the dusts of time

It started with a song
But it’s been so long
Together we were strong
It started with a song

Sitting in the rain holding back the pain
Light grows dim with the rising dawn
You were the reason for me to hold on
Then you left me and now long gone

It started with a song
But it’s been so long
Together we were strong
It started with a song
It started with a song

The Melody Lingers

Dreams and Autumn Years

Twilight dreams begin memories
Shadows dance in pale light
Leaves murmur in cool evening breeze
Melodies of lost time
Searching for words to sing again
Remembering the joy
Those youthful days of long ago
Where darkness never dawned

In the silence of the moment
My thoughts begin to stir
Past times echo at the edges
Those long lost summer days
Sharing hopes and dreams through the night
Living in the moment
Going wherever passions led
Exploring shared desires

Magical moments full of song
Joyous tunes meant for us
Never knowing that it would end
But heartfelt all the same
Shared melodies of innocence
For things we could not know
Present shared and futures unknown
Living in the moment

Twilight has moved with the shadows
The sun sets, moon rises
The chill of the night rouses me
Thoughts twinkle with the stars
High above and as deep inside
Forever there and bright
Darkness now lighted from the past
A guide through autumn years

It’s Her Disguise

Adrenaline Eyes

She spoke in a whisper, her name was Sophie
Voice so sweet, lips so moist
A gaze that excites from afar
Green eyes bright, shading your darkness

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

She looked right by me as she went straight through me
She thinks she rules in her high heeled shoes
She’s got the look
She’s got it all
With her camouflaged disguise

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

With a body made for pleasure
She knows how to pose

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

“Hotel California” was playing in the background
She has such a lovely face, such a lovely face
Wearing satin and lace, a view so fine
Awakening desires in the dark corners of my mind

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

Sophie you’re a long, long way from home
Come in from the darkness and the rain
Shed your mask, end your pain
Let wisdom, the light of your name, guide you

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

So young, so fine, skin soft as wine
The intake of your breath, the rise of your breasts
A haze of temptation fills the air, with its heady scent
A smile so wide with rosie cheeks and dimpled blush
The sparkle in your eyes tells me, you need to be mine

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

With a body made for pleasure
She knows how to pose

She looked right by me as she went straight through me
She thinks she rules in her high heeled shoes
She’s got the look
She’s got it all
With her camouflaged disguise

Adrenaline eyes
It’s her disguise
She’s got adrenaline eyes

“Hotel California” was playing in the background
She has such a lovely face, such a lovely face
She has such a lovely face, such a lovely face
She has such a lovely face, such a lovely face
She has such a lovely face, such a lovely face

Shush! Cue Music Please…

Sleepless Nights

Us together has been a waste of time
But getting up and walking out is never that easy
Our time together has been forever and a day
We need to forgive and forget before we go our separate ways

We need to learn to laugh instead of crying
It is time for me to pack instead of trying

I don’t want to talk about it any more
I don’t want to hear about it any more
I don’t want to think about it any more
I don’t want to feel like this…any more

You say you want to make it work
For the love we used to have
But wanting and dreaming are never the same
A never ending tale that ends in animosity

I don’t want to talk about it anymore
I don’t want to hear about it anymore
I don’t want to think about it anymore
I don’t want to feel like this…anymore

You say it was never a waste of time
But the sleepless nights fit the crime
It’s not as if I was blind
For all the rumors you left behind

I don’t want to talk about it anymore
I don’t want to hear about it anymore
I don’t want to think about it anymore
I don’t want to feel like this…anymore

These thoughts are driving me insane
I gave our love a chance but all was in vain
I looked for joy while you reflected pain

I don’t want to talk about it anymore
I don’t want to hear about it anymore
I don’t want to think about it anymore
I don’t want to feel like this…anymore

We’ll live with this every single night
Once done nothing can ever make it right
We will live in darkness more than light

I don’t want to talk about it anymore
I don’t want to hear about it anymore
I don’t want to think about it anymore
I don’t want to feel like this…anymore

I don’t want to feel like this…anymore
I don’t want to feel like this…anymore

A Song in Search of a Tune

Staring at the Rain

I’m listening to the sound of the rain
Mending broken memories running through my brain
The pitter, patter echoing the joy and the pain

Staring at the rain

Your hand holds the thunder
The sun shines in your eyes
Your kiss holds back the pain

Staring at the rain

Longing for the love we had
My heart holds forgiveness
Thinking of how it used to be

Mending broken memories running through my brain
Listening to the sound of the rain
The pitter, patter echoing the joy and the pain
Hoping to look into your eyes again

Staring at the rain
Staring at the rain

Hoping to look into your eyes again
Staring at the rain
Staring at the rain
