A Majestic Sentinel

A Lonesome Survivor

Its shapely leaves once adorned the heads of ancient kings
And provided shade for lovers through long summer days
Giving shelter to travellers on dark and cold autumn nights

Scared by the darkened embrace of the hangman’s noose
Roots grown strong with the blood from long lost lives
Sired generations that framed buildings and ships of the line

In a barren windswept field stands a weary oak tree, old with time
A majestic sentinel with twisted and gnarled bark full of memories
The lonesome survivor of rituals and ways of life from a bygone age
