A Silhouette of Dreams

This week’s poem for Facebook Group: Poetry in Motion.

The Melody of Rain

With a minstrel’s heart she sings
Passions flow from knowing lips
Fingers caress with gentle touch
Caught in a silhouette of dreams

Moonlight moves toward slumber
Storm clouds choke morning light
Melody of rain mingles with music
And shadows dance in silver mists

In my minds eye over in an instant
But a lifetime felt on body and soul
Desires released and free to wander
A perfect moment of unending bliss

The Melody of Rain

Sleepless Nights

Clouds Linger

Lost in thought
Where does time go?
Searching for answers
Finding only questions
Leaving accusations behind
Forever in doubt

Looking toward the past
Hoping for a future
Trapped in between
With no where to go
From sleepless nights
Dreams are rekindled

Once choices were easy
Youthful days long ago
Energies ran free
Passions held firmly
Paths were clear
Now clouds linger

Weary but unbroken
Choices still remain
Fewer than before
But there nonetheless
Time to collect things forgotten
Before they’re gone forever

Clouds Linger

Haiku Ten – Seven

Writing for many
Haiku in social circles
An undying art

Shadows on the screen
Living a nitrate daydream
Moments in darkness

Ruby lips entice
Smiling eyes pluck at heart strings
Beauty is timeless

Weary thoughts ignite
Forgotten memories burn
Dreaming in shadows

Lost in memories
Searching for hope in shadows
A dreamer awakes

Desires become one
And release hidden passions
Silence the darkness

Gentle thoughts caress
Distraction clouds my vision
Reflecting desires

Grey light surrounds me
Shadows fade into the night
Longing for your kiss

Early evening chill
A relentless rain pours down
Prelude to springtime

Not the Ides of March
About ole St Patrick’s Day
Time for a birthday

Haiku Ten – Six

In a tight embrace
Lost in the rhythm of you
Takes my breath away

Twilight dreams awake
Mirrored shadows become light
Meaning in rhythm

Reflecting passion
A moment frozen in time
A lingering kiss

Thoughts preserved in ink
Words silent beneath covers
Worlds of wonder

Early morning light
The melody of shadows
Forgotten moments

Seeping through the cracks
Dreams awaken from slumber
Stardust in my eyes

Late night rendezvous
Shadows move into light
Silent passions flow

A heartbeat pauses
Fragmentary moments pass
Searching for the truth

Silent melodies
Twilight lingers in pale light
Darkness over takes

A gentle rain falls
Clouds part, sun shines, birds rejoice
Spring will soon be here

The Enchanted Forest

The following poem was inspired by the photo below. Sarah Ward Smith (Twitter: @theodoremoo) sent me the photo and asked if I would write a poem about it. This is what happened…

Forgotten Tales

A gently breeze echoes through the enchanted forest
The moon and stars are muted with billowing clouds
And half remembered tales linger among silent trees
Their words trapped in darkness searching for home

As twilight falls excited voices erupt into the night
Chilled with fear as they wander aimlessly onward
Thoughts glimpsed in the distance just out of sight
Distorted views encircle as perception is narrowed

Imagination rustles the damp carpet of pine needles
Sadness and doubt circle as a low lying mist rolls in
Whispered words from lost fables breathe once more
Releasing tormented memories in a thunderous roar

A blood red cloak hangs, dripping with tears of rage
Discarded and unrecognized, a symbol of innocence
Anguished souls united in their struggle for freedom
Imprisoned in the enchanted forest by the rising sun

Forgotten Tales

Haiku Ten – Four

Soulful eyes embrace
Delicate soft lips to kiss
Beauty in full bloom

Lie back in comfort
Watch the flakes float by and dance
Whispered thoughts of spring

Longing for darkness
Peace and serenity shines
The light of sadness

Echoes fade in light
Shifting winds and silent flakes
A gentle snow falls

The snow has fallen
All rejoiced at the beauty
Then there was silence

Passions sharing thoughts
Amidst cold winds and dark skies
No blossoms in bloom

A cloak of wonder
Unseen to unknowing eyes
Hidden from within

From this point of view
Gazing into eyes so blue
Tears like morning dew

Frosted windows blur
Thoughts stir of days long ago
Your thoughts guides me still

Lost in thoughts again
Memories of you burn bright
Shadows moving in

The Chill and the Rain

That Silent Moment

You arrived with the late September rain
In misty moonlight, up on Mason’s Hill
Huddling close in an early autumn chill
As lightening strikes lit a darkened sky

Walking hand in hand down St Cuthbert’s Lane
Then over to the Park by the river
A cold north wind blew making us shiver
As I carved our names in the old oak tree

The years have come and gone sweet Mary Jane
It was us together sharing delights
Kisses in the rain and long summer nights
With that special look you have in your eye

The thought of ever loosing you gives me pain
The chill and the rain was where it began
When we met our love was never the plan
In that silent moment our hearts ran free

Micro Poetry, Tanka and Haiku

Moonlight fades in slumber
Dawn releases shadows
Grey clouds choke the light
Melody of rain feeds despair

Lost in a wilderness of thoughts
Shrouded in shadows of misery
My tears frozen on bare trees
As joy haunts the hinterland

Hissing of rain heard
In darkness thoughts are hidden
Minds drift endlessly
Pools of memories collect
Filling every hollow spot

Misty autumn skies
Leaves rustle with gusting winds
Purple, red and gold
Coolness lingers through the day
Smell of decay in the air

Chiselled light flickers
Smoke mingles with evening fog
Misty tendrils dance
Shadows chase the setting sun
Twilight lingers in silence

Lives frozen in time
Lost faces and their traces
Pen and ink restores

Clouds move in, light dims
Sound of rain breaks the stillness
Serenity roars

Eyes shine through darkness
Subtle lines framed in shadow
Light reflects beauty

Thoughts frozen in time
Flickering in the shadows
Forever in dreams

Morning dew collects
Soft petals thirsting for sun
Sweet scent flows through me

A mist haunts the land
Autumn leaves crunch under foot
Moments lost in time

Eyes looking through time
Forever free to wander
Capturing lost souls

Lost in starlight frost
Mists dance on silver moonbeams
Thoughts return to you

Autumn Begins Its Merry Dance

This is a re-write of a poem previously posted.

Autumn at the Mill

Bats dart and dive from attic cracks
And synchronize their attacks
With a Hunter’s Moon shining bright
Prey is stalked and caught in flight

Light fades and clouds advance
As autumn begins its merry dance
Those happy days of long ago

From days of old I remember
A sweet mellow September
Then October presents its share
At the Orchard Apple Fair

Trick or treat on All Hallows’ Eve
Golden leaves blow here and there
The smell of bonfires choke the air

Sensing change as the north winds blow
Hearing rushing water flow
At the mill the waterwheel whirls
In the meadow tall grass swirls

Those happy days of long ago
As light fades and clouds advance
Autumn begins its merry dance

Calling me like a long lost friend
