One Single Moment

Promises Broken

Sifting memories for the good times past
Glimpsing images as they blur by so fast
Truth shatters the stillness as they focus
Grieving for a future that could never be

Running down this street to nowhere
You said you would always be there
But the lies were only the beginning
It was in your eyes right from the start

Joy in my heart blinded me from the truth
As did hopes and dreams of reckless youth
Darkness took its hold as hope replaced joy
I gave you my heart but you never wanted it

Gaze deep into the faces you’ll never know
Pack your ever burgeoning baggage and go
Finding all that your love has abandoned
One single moment with promises broken
